Some Kind of Anniversary

A year ago today, a highly unadventurous act of turning to speak to someone led me to trip, fall, and shatter (doc's word) the wrist on my dominant (left) hand.

As a child who was tall and lanky (yeah, I know ;)), being coordinated was not a strength, because I did not know how to handle all those limbs. 😊 Yet, I managed to by-pass all those clumsy encounters, only to deal with my first broken bone decades later, and let me tell you I sure made up for the past misses.

It has been a long journey towards healing and recovery including, eight weeks of being in a cast, months in a brace afterwards, 12 weeks of physical therapy, lots of fear, frustration, anxiety, sadness, and THE Pain. Oh I tell you that pain was...

One of the starkest realizations was how quickly our lives can change - for me, going from a fairly independent person to being dependent for the most basic of needs was tough. The Hubs was called upon to live out his vows big time, and he did not disappoint.💖 Missy was also right there in the thick of it helping her Mama. 😊💕

As I look back now, I am just grateful. So very grateful. There are so many ways it could have been worse, but for the mercy of GOD. Don't get it twisted, I had many moments of 'Why, GOD?', but in the midst of it all, I knew HE had my back.

Through this experience I have gained a whole new level of appreciation for my hands and wrists and fingers - oh, and the tendons! I never even paid that much attention to, nor recognized, how very vital they are to my daily living. I learned something all right.

I have a whole new level of respect for physical therapy. Seeing my grip strength go from zero to over 20, from exercises I would have thought were so basic, was an eye-opener. To be able to bend my hand at the wrist, when it was as flat as could be on that first day of physical therapy,... was just amazing.

I am forever grateful that I could afford the care, and was blessed with the experts who brought their A-game.

I do not have sufficient words of thanks for all those who blessed me, and my family, with food, flowers, gifts, prayers, well wishes, and much much more. I dare not attempt to name names for I would most likely miss a few. GOD knows You all, and I pray that HE blesses each of You, again and again.

Oh I need to give a shout out to all those cultural norms from the land of my birth, Ghana, that forced this VERY left-handed soul to learn to do some things with her right hand. It came in super handy (pun intended). 😀

On this anniversary day, I still feel some pain, however, it does not even scratch the surface of the pain from before. Anndddd, each time I am able to hold something in my left hand, each time I am able to grasp something, or lift something up, I know that the Lord has brought me from a mighty long way, and I am comforted by the fact that, HE is still working on it, for as he says in Exodus 15:26 (biblegateway.com, NIV)

"...I am the Lordwho heals you.”

So, as each new day comes I will try to remember that HE's got me.

Oh, HE's got You too. 😊

Be Blessed!
